Once upon a time, these were the words of stories we heard as children. Amazing stories that may or may not have been true, and always had happy endings. Then we grew up and started learning stories of people, some alive, and some passed, but people who lived, or are still living. Which leads us to having dreams of our own story to tell one day. Now I want to talk about three things today which are all very important topics. Listening vs talking, the value of stories, and things you can do to make your story better. Listening vs talking, this is a topic that I think about consistently and love to address. These days I see so many people just talking, opening their mouth, ruining opportunities, moments, and stories. Then what's better, talking or listening? Well according to Tenzin Gyatso, "when you talk, you are only repeating what you already know, but if you listen you may learn something new." Don't listen to me, listen to the Dalai Lama. Another concept that goes with that quote is the concept, don't try to teach what you don't know. I see so many people today saying things trying to act smart that trick themselves into thinking they know what they're saying, and they think they know everything. Like don't tell a professional surgeon how to do surgery. People act like they know things they don't study, and it's so sad to see, they ruin the chance for people that actually want to learn, when someone that spends their life studying something is going to tell you something, Mr. Bigmouth will say something stupid, and ruin it, I hate seeing it so much, because people like this drag others down with them, it truly is one of the worst things I see happen around me. That's why you should listen, when you're talking about something you know, study, and/or have seen hard evidence and facts about then you should talk, and educate others around you, unless the person you're trying to educate, again, knows more than you on the subject, do not trick yourself into thinking you know something that experts don't. You need to listen to the things being said, it gives you a lot of information, information you can use to excel in life. You might hear amazing advice somewhere, or you'll hear a mistake that you will know not to make. Listening does so much for you, but all I see is people talking away, saying things that no one wants to, or needs to, hear. Don't be that person, stay away from those people because they will drag you down. I said that these stories get ruined, but does it really matter that much? Yes, yes it does. Learning stories from legends all the way to scientific studies. Everything you learn can be related to your life, if you talk to the right people. Sometimes you'll learn things that don't affect you as much as other things, but all knowledge is knowledge you can use for something. These stories whether true or legend, will show you practical things somewhere, even in fairy tales. They will give you knowledge directly or indirectly you can apply to your life and possibly change it. There are some amazing things done by people in history, hearing the story of it, or reading it will give you a lot of information, again if it's the right information you can take so much advantage of it. I can't stress how important these stories are, all of them. Some are beautiful, some are teaching, some are helpful, some are therapeutic even. That's why they have such value, because they give you so much in life. We see so many people share their stories, usually celebrities or millionaires, and usually these stories inspire us. They are amazing, I mean Steve Jobs worked in a garage, Bill Gates had to make his voice deeper on the phone, Logic living in a terrible town being brought up around people doing terrible things, Sylvester Salome was homeless, The Rock had only seven dollars in his pocket at one point when he was going back to live with his parents. I mean all of these stories have something in common. They all started at the bottom, and now you see them at the top. That's why they inspire. We all have problems, and sometimes they just suck to deal with, but hearing these stories give us the feeling of, wow, these people who I look up to have been in terrible places, maybe even worst than me, and they made it, so why am I complaining? I can do it too. That's my point, problems. We all have problems, and again a lot of them suck, now don't get me wrong there are good problems, like having a lot choices and having to decide something, such as, you have a lot of clothes, what are you gonna wear today? Things like that, but what I'm talking about are those problems that just make us sad, and we don't want to deal with. The thing is, that those problems you're going through, they all do something for you, you know what it is? They make your story better. All the things you're going through, and go through, so that one day when you do make it, you can tell people, inspire people, and say I went through x, y, and z, so if you're going through something just keep plowing through. If people inspire you, grow up to inspire people who are where you once were. One last thing I want to mention about your story is this. "Worry about making your story better, don't try to fix others." - Mashnoor Kabir. What I mean by this is, there are going to be people you will find that are toxic, and you can't help, but as humans we have an urge to help others. Sometimes you are going to have to force yourself to stop trying to help a lost cause, it's harsh, yet unfortunately true. Find people you want help, and will accept help, and help them when you have a position where you can because those people, the ones that are worth teaching, will give you something back for what you gave them. That's it for this week, I'm proud of how this came out, and hope that you understand that listening beats talking, the value of the stories you hear, understand that what you're going through now is just to make your story better later, and also, focus on your story, don't try to fix something you can't. With all of that said, thanks for reading, again hope you got something, and peace. Original
