Well, I didn't know what I was going to write this week, and then earlier one of my mom's friends asked me a question which was "what is good about being good?" My reply was very disconnected, and I said I'd write about it today, so here I am about to do just that, stay by your words it's a good habit. Anyways, to answer the question we first need to go over what it means to be good, what the answer is to the question, and then I want to give you my opinion and thoughts about being "good". What does it really mean to be good? After my mom's friend asked me, I took a second to answer, and my process for answering questions and statements that are philosophical and/or theoretical, is first defining the important parts of the question, then put definitions together to see what I get, and after analyzing I toss my own applicable thoughts, experiences, and connections in, if you read my writings you'll roughly see this formula. Then what does it mean to do good? Well first let me say what it means to do bad. Doing something "bad" would be an action that negatively affects you and/or someone/thing. That being said doing good would be the exact opposite, doing something that positively affects you and/or someone/thing.
Now there is one small difference between those. The definition for good is required to effect someone else positively. This means that a good action is not something that only affects you, while doing something bad can just be affecting you. Why though? Well, if it's just for you it goes into selfish(there's more to it, but that's another topic). That's why doing something good must positively affect someone else. Now for the most part, the good that happens to you from doing something good should be indirect in ways I will explain later, but if you're positively affecting someone for just the thought of personal gain in your mind, then you're not doing something good, you're just being, again, selfish.
If you're famous and you donate to charities to get publicity, it's not for a good cause. Bill Gates has an orphanage, and does a lot for charity, he gets publicity, but only because others see him doing this, this is an example of the indirect effect, but he could care less if he is seen or not seen. Caleb Maddix does so many things for others, his saying in life is literally "impact over income" he doesn't do things for publicity. Now he does share this on his social media, but his honest intention is to get others to do it, to inspire others to also do good. If you look at how someone acts and how often they do you can differentiate between what they want people to think, and why they do it. With all of that covered let's answer the question.
What's good about being good? This is definitely more of a opinion based question then factual, but, with that said, here is my answer. The good things about being good is first; humans are selfish we want things, so when we do something good we get something out of it; we feel good about ourselves. Second we make an impact; when you do something for someone you are making a change, it may not be insanely huge right now, but it could help someone big time in the big picture. Like, let's say someone's depressed, and you just have small conversations with them now and then. Those small conversations, believe it or not, can prevent people from ending their lives short. Trust me, I've seen it, I've felt it, I've done it. It's a very weird feeling you get, but that's one example, it could just give someone their next meal if you donate, but that's still an impact. It's the small things. If everyone in the world picked up one piece of trash a day, the world would be cleaner. Third, it will help you understand more about situations. By this I mean that when you do something good, you can understand more about what's wrong, what kind of people have the problem, and how to better it. Right now you may only be able to help one or two, but if you understand the problem more, it'll be solvable at one point, that's a common rule in math, you can't solve a problem you don't understand, not correctly anyways. Those three things are my answer to the question, "what's good about being good?" I want to now give my opinion on being good, and bad, and things of that nature. First and foremost, don't do bad things, now and then you might slip, and that's fine, no, actually that's human. Just make sure you learn from the slips, if you slip on the same puddle two times you have a problem. Doing good things though, this one might be surprising, but this is my opinion on it. I don't think you should do good things because it's good. Now hear me out, let me explain. When I do something good, I don't consider it good, I don't do something good to get those three things mentioned above, I do end up getting them, but they are not my intention. In my opinion, the "good" things I do, are not for anything, other than the fact that I'm human. Don't do good things for something you get out of it, do good things because you are human, do good things because it's programmed and lodged into your head that you have to. Make doing a good thing natural, not a choice, get to the point where doing a good thing is just another part of your day, nothing special nothing new. That's my small opinion on doing good, I hope you understood that haha. Those are my thoughts to the question "what's good about being good?" Thanks for reading, you should have learned the meanings of doing good and bad actions, my answer to the question, and my thoughts on being good vs bad. That is all for this week, stay updated to know when I post my next writing, and leave what you're answer is to this question too, I would love to hear it. Have a great week and peace. Original
