Teaching is something that everyone does, whether it be overtly or covertly, everyone teaches. In all honesty I’m gonna keep this short because I don’t have much of an introduction, I will say that this post is about teaching vs giving.
I said “teaching vs. giving,” yet teaching is a form of giving, isn’t it? You are giving knowledge, and I believe this is the only thing you should be giving people. When I say this, I mean in the context of answers, the context of questions. When someone has a problem you know the answer to, it poses a question, do you tell them the answer, or do you help them reach the answer, do you teach them about how you get the answer? Do you just give it to them and leave? There’s a discord here, so what exactly happens when you give, and what happens when you teach? When you give there are pros, sure. Quick and concise, gives them a solution to a problem. However this is short term. What happens when this person runs into the same type of problem, but with different values? They, once again, do not know what to do. Giving answers is a very short term gain, it’ll work for that moment, but it won’t work later. This is why we teach.
Teaching has short term conditions too; the act of learning. Learning in itself is innately a positive act, the brain covets learning, there’s a dopamine release every time you learn something new. The long term effects are also great; you know how to solve these types of problems in the future, a way to find the least wrong answer, since there’s never usually a “correct” answer.
When you weigh the pros and cons, teaching is the obvious choice, it’s a more effective, and lasting method. It’s not just an ephemeral answer, that is a one-time-use card. This entire argument goes back to the expression, “if you give a man a fish, he can eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he can eat for a lifetime.” That’s going to be all for this post, it was short, and informal, I hope you enjoyed though, it is a powerful concept, I encourage all of you to give knowledge, and to assimilate knowledge. Anyways, that’ll be all. Have an amazing week, and I’ll see you the next, peace. Original
