It's great to be back, and jumping right into it, I'm excited about writing this one. This post is, again, inspired by the book The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. There was a certain experiment and quote in the book that I read and found extremely intriguing and just had to write about it. Now here we are, with two questions, and the great quote I read; what is perception, what is reality, and the connection between the two. Perception. I had a post titled "Perspective." I should first contrast these. Perspective is the way in which you see things, and perception the way in which you perceive things. Meaning that perception is how you interpret things, while perspective is from which lens you see it through. Each perspective has its perception. With that said, perception is how things seem to be, positive, negative, neutral, this is how you "see" things through your mind. It is subjective, and filtered through the mind, which warps everything you think of, in one way or another. Psychosis is the detachment of emotions from reality. Reality is... well, that's a good question. What is reality? An accepted thought would be, reality is what your senses assimilate. The wind during winter is cold, the sun during summer is scorching, now this isn't good, bad, torturous, no, it just is. The tree is green, not because of chlorophyll, not because of photosynthesis, the tree is green because the tree is green. These are the things you assimilate through your senses, that is what makes reality. Which is what I would've said, before I read this book, and saw this line. "Reality is the perception of the mind." - Shawn Achor This quote is literally saying that the things you think, are the things that will transpire, or occur, in "reality." This ties back to my last post Energy, you attract what you exude. Now the experiment that brought along that quote was this. There was an experiment where people were brought in; one of their arms were rubbed with a harmless shrub, but the subjects were told it was poison ivy, and the other arm was rubbed with poison ivy, but the subjects were told it was a harmless shrub. I think you know where this is going. In a few days, most subjects were showing poison ivy symptoms on the arm that was rubbed with the harmless shrub, while the other arm, rubbed with the actual poison ivy, was fine. Placebo has much more power than we originally thought. Not even just placebo, our minds have so much power. Let's use the difficulty of a task for example. What makes a task "hard?" It's not really the effort of the task, it's your mindset, the brain will make lifting a tomato and arduous task if you truly doesn't want to do it. If however, you approach things with zeal, they will be easier, you'll feel better doing it, and you'll be more satiated and have a greater sense of achievement when you finish. Use your mind to shape your reality. Of course though, know the limits, a train isn't gonna fall out of the sky because you imagined it. Understand the power of your mind, and understand the work you need to do. Reality will find a way to conform. With all of that said, I'm glad to say I'll post again every weekend from what I can see in the future, so that's great. I do hope you enjoyed this post, I was really excited about writing it. After reading those few pages, the concepts of, what is perception, what is reality, and how reality is just the perception of the mind. It was interesting. Now this may seem weird, but there's a quote from Albert Einstein that might help convince you. "Everything is Energy, and this is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics." - Albert Einstein. This was, arguably, one of the smartest scientists in history, and he said this. It just helps assure me again. Thank you for reading to this point, I appreciate it, have a wonderful week, I'll see you the next, peace. Original
