In Greek mythology, Prometheus, the Titan credited with the creation of man, gave man the gift of fire. Angry, Zeus, the God of thunder, got Hephaistos to make a beautiful woman out of clay, named Pandora. Zeus sent Pandora down to earth with a little box with a big lock on it, and gave Pandora as a present to Prometheus’ brother Epimetheus. Zeus told Epimetheus that he should marry Pandora. There were two other things that he gave them. To Epimetheus he gave the key to the box, and to Pandora he gave curiosity. This curiosity ate away at Pandora, but whenever she asked Epimetheus for the key to open the box, he would say ‘no.’ One night, though, as Epimetheus fell asleep, Pandora stole the key, and opened the box. Out of this box came calamity, anguish, negativity, pain, sickness, worry, crime, hate, envy, and many other things. These things went everywhere, and Pandora was left in anguish, trying to catch all the negativity and put it back in the box, but it was too late. However, as she lay there in sorrow, she noticed one more glow in the box. Peering into the box, she found one last thing, something beautiful… Hope.
That is the story of Pandora’s box. In this story we see how curiosity killed the cat, but beyond that we see two things. One, that no matter how much negativity there is, by universal law there must be positivity, and there will never be a time where there is negativity without positivity or positivity without negativity. Two, the moral that most people take is that amongst pain and amongst calamity, you can always get through if you have hope. That’s what today’s post is about.
First, let’s talk about what not having hope does to you. Hopelessness will cause you feelings of worthlessness. You don’t expect anything positive to happen no matter what you do. Actually, you’ll probably wonder when everything will fall apart. Your motivation will go down and your ability to problem solve will go down as well. Hopelessness is also deeply connected to depression, both as a symptom and cause, along with suicidal thoughts and actions. The moral of this story is that hopelessness sucks, and it can get you killed.
Now let’s talk about what having hope does. Hope gives you a warm feeling in your chest, a feeling that everything will go on. Hope is a light at the end of the tunnel, hope is a force of motivation, pulling you and pushing you towards your goal. It lowers stress and anxiety. It heightens optimism and positivity. Hope will allow you to continue growing and evolving. Hope will allow you to continue moving in the face of adversity and failure. While you may have to change your methods, hope tells you that it’s still possible, no matter what comes in your way. Hope is beautiful.
That’s it for this post, I hope that you got something out of it, and if you’re in a time or space in which you don’t feel hope, observe nature, observe the earth and notice how everything moves, and allow hope to flow through you, letting nature show you that everything will go on, and that everything will be fine. Hopelessness hurts, so don’t try it. Have hope, because it’s a wonderful thing, and it will help you in many areas. With that, I also hope you have an amazing week. I’ll see you the next, peace.
