I was writing a message to a friend, and we were talking about optimism, and I, being an avid supporter of optimism, while understanding that too much of anything is a negative thing; so I told him, "be mindfully optimistic." That kinda just popped into my head, however I needed a post idea, and here we are. In this post I'll discuss optimism and pessimism, what realism really means, and how to be mindfully optimistic. Optimism is the belief in positivity. That in a situation, that in any event, it will turn out to have a positive outcome; negativity is the opposite, the belief in negativity. That in a situation, that in any event, it will turn out to have a negative outcome. Optimism is a natural tendency in people, when life is simply flowin', you will be automatically optimistic, it's a cognitive bias called the over-optimism tendency. Negativity however, is the automatic response of the brain when something, anything, goes wrong. The brain has evolved in a way that makes pessimism more efficient that optimism, and the brain is a machine not of results, but of efficiency. I also say that too much optimism will get you scammed, and too much negativity makes opportunity pass. Too much of anything is a negative thing Realism is a complete farce. I personally believe, and this was told to me first by the friend mentioned in the introduction, that realism is just a more insecure way of saying cynicism. I say insecure because most people say they're "realist," but every time someone that refers to themselves as a realist, usually just said something pessimistic or cynical. They think this is realistic probably because, again, the brain's natural when something goes wrong is pessimism. Don't be cynical, I've tried, and don't be a realist, it shows insecurity. Be honest. Mindful optimism is, of course, a form of optimism, and it entails that you be optimistic, that feeling that everything will turn out positively, but also taking the time, and patience to make sure that you don't get scammed. Be mindful of the consequences, the cons, the negatives, it's important to understand the negativity, because without it there is no positivity, without yang, there is no yin. This is easier said than done, because looking at negativity while remaining positive, is a very, very hard thing to do. Do not get swallowed by the darkness, while looking from the light. That is mindful optimism. Being optimistic while being mindful, being aware. Hopefully you understand that concept more along with pessimism and optimism, along with the farce of realism. Shout out to the friend that told me about that, and helped in the creation of this concept, that's all for this week, have a good one, I'll see you the next. Peace. Original
