It’s the small things that matter, and it’s the big things that make a difference. There are so many popular, yet contradictory statements on details. Some imply that you should focus on the big picture, some imply you should focus on details. Some imply that you should stop painting, I don’t even know what they’re saying anymore. That’s why we’re gonna define the big picture and the small details, when the big picture trumps the details, when the details trump the big picture, and when you should use either one. Details, the tiny things that make or break a picture. Details are small and unnoticed, but they only feel unnoticed, in reality they make a picture what it is, they make a picture beautiful. How does this apply to life? Details are small things that are hard to point out, so in life it's just that, small things you do that make a difference, something that will make people say or think, "something's different, but I just can't put my finger on it." In a positive way of course. Details are small, but if done right, effective, they make the big picture beautiful. These are tiny things that can make extreme differences, remember even .01 is greater than 0. What then is the big picture? The big picture is the whole thing, it's what people see, it's what people notice, it is the beauty of a picture. In life these are going to be goals, these are going to be finished products in life. This is your entire outfit verses coordinating the colors, colors being the details. These will be bigger actions with much more direct impact. while .01 is greater that zero, ten is even greater than .01. Which one then, should you focus on? The goal, the beauty, or the tiny things that make the beauty what it is. Where details trump the big picture. Details are the support to your goals, they are things that are known as, "behind the scenes" things. These are things that are very necessary, but hidden. A car must have a motor, but we cannot always see the motor. However, the motor is still nicely done, that's attention to the minutiae, the small, precise, and trivial details. You need to pay attention to the minutiae, you need to make sure that your details are extremely accurate and nicely done, they are going to make everything in the big picture better. Back to the clothes reference, you could wear some hypebeast clothes, but if it doesn't go together, color wise or style wise it just won't look good. Details are most necessary at about the middle of the picture. At the beginning you have a blank canvas, you need to understand what the picture will be, get some outlines, and then worry about details, colors, shadows, tiny features, and the other small things. You still however need a picture to add details. Where the big picture trumps the details. While the small things matter, and they make a huge impact, but there's no impact to make without the big picture. The big picture needs to be focused on at the end and beginning of the picture, as stated earlier this is where you need to understand the picture, or goal, and then start getting rough outlines, or understand what you're going to do. Then we focus on details and start filling things in nicely, and at the end we need to look at the whole picture to make sure the details were justified, and helped make the big picture look beautiful, and also fill in some cracks if there's any left, which there usually is. The big picture should still be checked consistently just to make sure you're on the right track, and you're making the most progress as efficiently as possible. This is where the big picture beats the details, when the impact needs to be thought of and reviewed, when you do the big actions while trying to get big results. Now that we know the differences when should we specifically use either one of them? Well that's where neither of them trump the other one. We should use both the big picture and the details at the same time. The problem with what we hear is that they relate to the negligence of either the details or the big picture. To solve this we have to use both of them. The big picture is what people see it is what is beautiful, the details are what make people like what they see, they make the big picture beautiful. Both go hand in hand, and should both be used harmoniously. You must remember to round the edges at the end of all of your projects, or else it'll remain unfinished, and just won't become what it has the potential to be. Those are the details about the big picture and the details haha. What you hopefully got out of this is what the big picture and the details are, when you should practice detailed thinking, when you should practice big picture thinking, and that you should use both of them hand in hand. The one question I’ll leave you with is, was this writing big picture, or detail-oriented? You can think about that while you have an amazing day, I’ll see you next week, peace. Original
